Thing 7

As I was clicking on my blog, I was thinking that I didn't know how I would use Flickr on my school blog. Then my blog popped up and I saw the picture of the sun I put on and I knew. I would use it to post pictures that would allow my students to imagine. I would use it to post pictures to allow my students to wonder. I would use it to post pictures to allow my students to get angry. I would use it to post pictures to allow my students to defend their opinions. And I would use it to ask them to post pictures to explain. I am not sure if I would run into controversy or create it, but then learning doesn't happen if there isn't some sort of dialogue. I think I really love Flickr.

  1. What a great image! Your idea to use images to elicit reactions is powerful. I just read a blog entry by Lynell Burmark, and she said, "According to Multimedia Learning author Richard Mayer, students' retention is boosted 42 percent when materials have appropriate illustrations, rather than text alone. And—what really touches the heart of an educator — transfer (being able to apply learning in new situations) improves 89 percent when instruction is anchored to compelling images!" Good reasons to use images.

  2. I too found this idea very powerful and will try it with my students. I think using pictures will really bring out their true feelings. Great Idea!
